Practical tips for planning your time in Albania. This page is a general guide, not official advice.
Before you travel
- Check your passport validity and entry requirements on your government's official travel website.
- Ask your bank or phone provider about fees for using cards or mobile data abroad.
- Arrange travel insurance that covers the activities you plan to do.
Getting around
Your tour starts with a pickup at your hotel in Tirana or Durrës, or at our base in Bathore. Tours use a private car or 4x4 with your own driver, so you do not need public transport between stops. Some mountain roads are narrow and bumpy, so the drive can take longer than the map suggests.
Money
Albania's currency is the Albanian lek (ALL). Many tourist businesses also accept euros. Card payment availability varies, so it's wise to carry some cash.
What to pack
Clothing
Layers work well, since mountain and coastal temperatures can differ a lot.
Footwear
Comfortable shoes for walking. Hiking boots are useful on mountain trips.
Sun and water
Sunscreen, a hat and a refillable bottle are useful in summer.
Seasons
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September and October) are usually the most comfortable for hiking and long drives. Summer is hot in the lowlands and the coast is busiest, so start early. In winter some mountain roads and viewpoints can close after snow or heavy rain, so we confirm conditions before each trip.
Booking and cancellation
To book, open a tour, choose a free date and time and send a booking request. We confirm by email, usually within a few hours. You can also message us on WhatsApp or by email. You pay your driver on the day of the tour, in cash (lek or euros). Cancelling is free up to 24 hours before the tour starts. Later cancellations, or not showing up, are charged 50% of the tour price. If weather or road closures stop a tour, we move it to another day or cancel it free of charge.
